Please speak up fo the Hoover Park cats

STOMP Complaint: Too many cats at Hoover park

Ivan:

Someone complained that there are too many cats at the above area. The exact location is the area a few lanes behind the famous Malay eatery (Al Ameen) opposite Beauty World. As we do not have any Central-South zone representatives anymore, CWS appreciates someone staying near there to go warn the feeder auntie about the complain that is posted on STOMP. To ask her also to start a TNR program if she hasn’t (I cannot tell if the cats have their ears clipped from the vague photos).

Here is the complain. The complainant has asked NEA to act on the cats (I wonder why this agency?). At the same time, I am disturbed by the behaviours of complainants who mention some “concern” statements about community cats (or say they are “animal lovers”), and then go on to complain about the helpless community cats.

What bugs me Stomper is that you apparently simply write down your observation without checking the facts first. All the cats the lady is feeding have been sterilised. The cats that are there are those abandoned by their owners, only a few are left that were actually born in Hoover Park (before the lady had them sterilised). The last cats that were born in Hoover Park are now 7 years old and only 4 of the original group are still alive. All other cats you've seen are dumped by irresponsible people who choose to dump them instead of care for them, or those who refuse to sterilise them and simply dump the offspring. So instead of accusing the elderly lady you should accuse those abandoning and dumping cats and try to help the lady educate those people instead of lecturing her. She would love to see the population to go down, she simply doesn't believe in killing innocent cats.
