Kitten saviour
ON THE morning of Feb 7, a kitten was heard mewing from within the engine of our car.
After many frantic hours of trying to coax it out, by opening the bonnet, crawling under the car and tempting it with cat food, we gave up in despair. We caught only a quick glimpse of its eyes for a split second and we were wracked by worry that it might die after being trapped for more than seven hours in the heat of the day.
After frantically calling for help from friends and neighbours, we soon ran out of options and a neighbour decided to call the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for help. The call was attended to promptly by Ms Shanti. After getting the necessary details, she told us someone would be sent as soon as possible. Little did we expect someone to turn up within the hour, considering it was a Sunday.
Mr Nara from the SPCA arrived, promptly swung into action and in no time the kitten was free, partly due to a stroke of good fortune. It was barely two months old and terrified by the ordeal. Thankfully, a disaster was averted, the kitten is safe and now fostered by my family, awaiting adoption.
My family and I would like to thank the SPCA for its exemplary service to us and the kitten. We would otherwise have had to call a mechanic to dismantle some parts of the engine, assuming a mechanic was available for such a task on a Sunday. Then there was the time issue - would he arrive before the kitten collapsed?
What a relief for me and my family when the mewing ball of fur was finally freed.
