Fear of kids: a surviving skill of a community trying to survive in a harsh urban jungle

This cat was neutered about 4 years ago.
When a 4-5 year-old and his grandmother walked by, this cat suddenly shot into the shrubs to hide.
Parents or grandparents, if they do not instil fear into kids of "stray" animals, do not know how to supervise them on approach to these animals.
Un-intentionally some cats reacted to a painful handling by kids resulting in scratches. An angry parent would lodge a complaint with the town council resulting in the killing of the cats in the neighbourhood, even if those cats not implicated! How many innocent feline lives have been lost this way because there are no caregivers to speak for the cats? And the town council officers just do not care anything beyond "pleasing complaining residents!

Meow-Meow's second acupuncture

Read: http://singaporecommunitycats.blogspot.com/2010/04/severely-abused-cat-in-holland-drive.html

Someone hit a cat that the old lady feeds daily so hard that her whole back part is paralysed and fighting for her life at the clinic since 23 april.

We sent her and been visiting and praying hard that she would recover.

Someone told the caretaker that it was a Malay teenager living at Block 1 Holland Drive who hit the cat.

There is a gang of these teenagers who are trouble-makers.

Her hind legs and tail can't move. There is also back-part swelling.

Vet said there must be a lot of bruises inside and outside the body that can't be seen from the x-ray. It only shows that no bone is broken.

We are checking with vet if the cat can try acupuncture because i saw in MettaCats facebook that Felix and Mikho improved after the treatment. But old lady couldn't afford it.

This 72 year-old lady was knocked by a motorcycle months back and the someone recommended a lawyer to claim compensation ( she can't work) but told her she could claim 12k and have to pay 5-7k for legal fee. She can't afford her own expenses and the feeding of her strays (over 10) and now she is worried about injured cat's medical.

If you can help with cat food or medical. Please contact me and I can link you up with old lady.;)

If you would like to sponsor Meow-Meow's acupuncture and/or watch the next session, email to Bee Leng c/o mettacatsg@gmail.com

Update on two adopted community cats: Vodka and Motorspot

Subject: Abuse of cats in the vicinity of your school
To Mr XXX, Principal, XXX Primary School

Dear Mr XX

My name is xxx and I moved into Blk xx, which is facing your school, last June.

A few months ago, I spoke to my neighbour, a lady in her 70s and she told me that before this estate underwent upgrading, she had reported to the SPCA about students from your school abusing cats and that some cats were strung from the trees. I had hope that this was a thing of the past, until a resident of Blk xx, JY, told me that he saw students from your school kicking a cat along the pathway directly opposite Blk xx, along the perimeter of your school, about a month ago.

This evening, I met another resident of Blk xx, M, who said that her father met an elderly lady who saw students from your school throwing stones at a cat. This was about a week ago and I believed a letter on this matter has been sent to you.

We believe that these students who abuse animals are just a small percentage of your school population but nonetheless they are a stain on the good record of your school.
We are concerned about children who abuse animals because of the association with family violence and criminal tendency in adulthood.

Hence we feel that it is necessary to identify these students for appropriate counselling and to prevent further hurt on these community cats.

2 weeks ago M saw this cat (seen below) with blood stain around his nose and around his belly.
Carol (of Blk xx) and I saw him a few days ago and we found that the hair on one side of his tail was shaved off so hard that the whole length of the curly tail was covered with a linear dry blood-scab. We also saw a non-united laceration over his belly, measuring about 2cm. These were intentionally inflicted by a razor blade.

We hope you will be able to broadcast this incidence during assembly and asked if there are witnesses to this cruel act.

If any of your students have seen the perpetrator/s (whether or not they are from your school), please contact me

With this quote
“If [man] is not to stifle human feelings, he must practice kindness toward animals, for he who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of man by his treatment of animals.”
Immanuel Kant, 1724-1804Lectures on EthicsI thank you for your kind attention

*People who abuse animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes.
*75 percent of women entering shelters have companion animals. Of those women, 71 percent witnessed their abuser either injuring or killing their companion.
*In 88 percent of homes with prosecutable animal cruelty, children were also being physically abused.
*In more than two-thirds of cases involving elder abuse, the perpetrator neglected or abused the elder’s companion animal as a form of control or retaliation, in frustration over their caretaking responsibilities or as a way to obtain something from the elder

23 May, 2007:"The vet expressed out a few drops of synovial fluid from two puncture wounds, indicating the bite inflicted was deep and had penetrated into the joint space. The pus had drained from spontaneous rupture of the wound but the deep infection will need to be cleared with daily flushing and oral antibiotic. An antibiotic injected was given at the time of consultation. Vodka has to be admitted for care."

"I discovered a longitudinal wound about 0.5cm long, on the side of Motorspot’s trunk. The foul-smell from the wound was so strong that when I was in the office, my colleague was wondering if anyone has step on shit. I held my index finger to my nose and oops……

After my morning work, I decided to bring him to the vet for treatment."

the cats are good. when i am not here, my husband sayang them. but motorspot really is still acting weird after all these years. and his fur won’t grow back. so we left it as it is lor. even the vets all dunno what to do leh. vodka is super lovely. as usual. haha. the love of my life. he loves the attention and everything. he’s happiest when we have parties at our house. people love him! then he gets a lot of sayang. hehehe… i got no new photos to send you though. cuz i haven’t been here and i am not sure where my husband loads the photos he takes.

he (Vodka) is fearless leh. but he’s also the most fun. when we have kids over, they love him to bits. i cut their nails though. cuz vodka likes to play. and we have kenah hurt many times. so we try to trim whenever we can. so that we stop having these scars all over our arms and legs.

:o ) mok
