Ah Kang's Pride and Joy

rabbit_ah_kang_05022009

Ah Kang, my colleague, handed me this photo this morning.

This is the rabbit that he found at his doorsteps some months ago. It was likely abandoned because it was old and crippled, perhaps from being caged up for a long time. He took pity on the rabbit and housed him outside the long recess area of his corner flat. He was not savvy with the care of a rabbit and the rabbit developed some rashes from water contact. I asked him to consult pet shops and to get his son to borrow books on rabbit care. After applying the knowledge that he acquired, this rabbit blossomed into a beautiful responsive pet. Ah Kang said the rabbit would jump up in joy whenever he came home. He said the rabbit did not react the same way to his wife. There was a deep sense of pride and joy whenever he talked to me about this rabbit.

There is a place for animal companionship in every home, even a HDB flat. However every owner has to be responsible for the pet to prevent annoyance to neighbours. Neighbours, on the other hand, must be tolerant and not complain simply on sighting a pet.
