CNN Hero Deborah Hoffman Dedicated To Rescuing Abused And Abandoned Dogs
In Northeast Houston, just off I-59, there lies a stretch of land more than a mile long that Deborah Hoffman has dubbed the "Corridor of Cruelty." Every day a number of dogs are discarded in the Corridor, many of them severely abused from dog-fighting.
Hoffman first came into contact with the abandoned and abused animals in 2006, when she volunteered for a local rescue group. She has since saved over 180 strays with her nonprofit organization Corridor Rescue, a fully-realized network of volunteers that, among other things, provides food and water for the animals until they can be rescued and, when set on the road to health, works to place them in loving homes. Hoffman firmly believes it to be her duty to restore the lives of suffering animals, and quips with a degree of seriousness that she "will be...trying to save an animal from [her] rocking chair."
