SPCA, truly an animal's best friend
ON THURSDAY afternoon, my dad and I tried to rescue a tiny kitten that had been making distress cries since the previous night from a gutter at Bukit Batok Street 52.
When we lifted the grille placed over the gutter, the kitten ran deeper into the drain, which led to the middle of the street.
My dad then called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for assistance. Within an hour, Mr Richard from the SPCA arrived.
The kitten was out of sight, but its agonising cries from deep within the drain were audible. Mr Richard sought the assistance of two contractors doing lift upgrading work at Block 512 to lift the massive manhole cover in the middle of the street.
Using two barrels of water, he managed to flush the kitten towards him. He then bathed it and placed it in a cage in his van, because, according to him, the kitten was too young and needed to be fostered by the SPCA.
My dad and I never expected the SPCA, and especially Mr Richard, to go to such great lengths to rescue a mere kitten in distress.
Without the SPCA, one precious life would have, in all probability, been lost. Our sincere thanks and gratitude to the SPCA, and especially to Mr Richard and the two contractors, for having gone to extremes to save a tiny, but dear, life. The SPCA is indeed doing a great and noble job.
