Remembering Panther-2: "You were NEVER a nuisance"

3rd June 2006, "The new arrival black cat with the right torn ear-tip has escaped the wrath of Tom-King by moving to level 2. I am “priming” him for his sterilization by feeding him with yummy food. He is no long hissing and I might just get him to walk into a carrier next week."

12 December, 2006:

At about 6pm, I was at the carpark when Panther-2 suddenly shot out between two cars across the drive-way to come towards me. A car came by and in the panic rushing forward-backward, I heard sounds and I saw him galloped off into a nearby cluster of shrubs. As I searched for him, he shifted about within the shrubs. I caught a glimpse of his face with a the tip of his tongue sticking out when I moved asides the leaves. I reached out to him but he moved away.

I will search for him again tonight and see how I could get him to trust me enough to transfer into carrier for the trip to the vet.

Below are photos of him I took this morning. He has a patch of scabbed wound on his back and I think it was due scalding, likely from a hot exhaust pipe of a car.

I was video-ing Panther-2 and Mui-Mui when I heard the voice of a lady calling to the cats. It was the same lady I spoke to on the 11th. (Since then, I had seen dry cat food placed a piece of tissue paper in the recess area rather her previous way of scattering the dry food onto the concrete floor of the void deck.) I went up to her and told her that the cats have been fed. She opened up a small yellow plastic bag she held in her hand. It contained cooked rice mixed with brownish cat food. She said she would leave the food at a corner of the void deck. I believed she might have just “plonk-ed” the rice on the concrete floor. What a mess it would make! I said that these cats wouldn’t finish up the food and that the leftover would attract pigeons. I insisted that she did not feed. She walked off to the next block. A glimpse of this lady can be seen in the video clip below.

Why is such irresponsible feeding so difficult to stop?

Is it because such irreponsible feeders did not “invest” in the welfare of the community cats with payment for the sterilization?

See the amount of “human” rubbish in the video and yet cats are being killed over complaints from residents of cat-food-mess from irresponsible cat feeders.

9 January, 2007
morning entry: "Panther-2 missing for 2 days"
evening entry: "I was happy to find Panther-2 at the block adjacent to his usual one. I had thought this was Panther-3 but I recognised the torn right ear. He was with the tuxedo black-n-white unsterilized cat! Today it flipped up its tail as it rubbed round the pillar as it to make a statement that “I am a char-boh (’girl‘)”

7.30am : I was concerned with not seeing Panther-2 with his head-butting buddies, Kunyit and Mui-Mui, for the past one week, when the trio was at the usual place this morning. I noticed a few wounds on his trunk that I suspected were due to scalding by cars’ exhaust pipes. I went home to bring down the bottle of antibiotic powder to sprinkle on the wounds as he ate away.

2nd February 2009 - This was to be the last video clip of Panther-2
