Why would a cat safe and comfy in a good home wants to be "nomadic"

This is one silly reason why HDB bans cats from living in HDB flats where almost 90% of people live!

"Q: Why has it been so difficult for local community to grow in the HDB environment?

A: There is no belief that people would actually voluntarily organise themselves to take care of their own environment. We have very little faith in people and the everyday life. There are ton of workers taking care all of that so residents have no responsibility to anything, there is no sort of mechanism to generate community unless you become member of the Residents’ Committee and community centre. Whenever community is generated, it’s an occasional thing, mooncake festival and this kind of thing, it’s very event-oriented rather than everyday notion of community."

HARD TO FIND HOME FOR HOMELESS PETS

I REFER to the letter, “Allow for exceptions to big-dog rule in flats” (my paper, March 5).

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (SPCA) thanks Miss Stefanie Lua for raising this issue on behalf of dog owners who may be downgrading from a private property to an HDB flat, where it is not permitted to keep big breeds of dog.

As the writer mentioned, during a recession, the number of dog owners having to downgrade could increase.

The SPCA supports the call that HDB not be too rigid when considering appeals, as it is not easy for new homes to be found for homeless pets.

As more dogs are commercially imported, bred and sold, the avenues for re-homing are limited.

A compassionate approach is needed to help people who may face the terrible dilemma of having to part with a beloved pet.
