There are few things more heart-wrenching than an ailing dog — and a stray dubbed "Ol Boy" was really ailing when he was taken in by the kind folks from Save Our Street Dogs, a Singapore-based animal welfare organization. Ol Boy was starving, infested with ticks and in constant pain, but finally received some much-needed love and care from the group's volunteers before he passed away. They even gave him a funeral and scattered his ashes in a sunny park. No, there's not something in our eye. We're totally crying.

Everyone has been saying how lucky Ol Boy was to have me during his last days. The truth is, it is very much the other way round.

It became so clear to me the moment I brought him home, that our encounter was by no mere chance. He came to me for a very good reason, to grant me profound understanding of the 4th suffering of life - Death.

Last week was a great great lesson in life, not only for 

me, but I believe for many out there as well.

Dying with dignity is something we do not offer our dogs, especially the strays. Ol Boy demonstrated to Singapore, the importance of being allowed to die in dignity, the preciousness of life, and the fleeting inevitability of it all.

We may not be able to alter the cycle of life and death, but everyone of us can help ease the sufferings of Samsara for other sentient beings.

Dear friends, Ol Boy passed away early this morning at about 4am. He went very peacefully.

Last saw him at 2am. He was whining in discomfort. After tending to him, he was quiet and comfortable. This was the last photo taken of him when he was alive, flowers and toys by his side. He managed to sit up, and drink water himself for the last time.

Kissed him goodnight. Then he lay down, rested, and slipped away.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has cared abt him, contributed to his bills, and visited him. Thank you.

The sad story of a street dog called Ol Boy

This is Ol Boy. A member of the public alerted us to a dog who had been howling in pain for the past 3 days, asking for help. Was was paralysed and was lying in his pee and shit for the past 3 days.

We brought Ol Boy to the vet, but it did not look good. He was in alot of discomfort, and he was dying.

He cannot move because he is paralysed from a spine lesion, perhaps mestatasis of prostate cancer.

There were hundreds of ticks on him. It was horrifying. The poor boy has a Hemoglobin of 6. He will die soon if he does not get a transfusion.

We maintain our principle of not putting dogs down. We will keep him comfortable, then transfer him to a shelter where he will be given the best of care, and good food.

However, at this point, we need blood.
Ol Boy needs a transfusion by tomorrow if he were to know what it is like to be loved and to to have a taste of life off the street.

Then we can transfer him to shelter.
We need a big dog, more than 20kg, to give blood to him. If you can help, let me know. If not, I will let him slip away comfortably. He is now lethargic, but comforatable. Hundreds of ticks were removed from him earlier.

Visited Ol Boy at the vet.. 2nd packet of blood has gone in. He is more alert now, but drifting in and out of consciousness.

Communicator has spoken to Ol Boy.
He is dying, and he is preparing to go. He wants to leave on his own.. He does not want to be put to sleep.

He is extremely grateful for the love and care that has been shown to him in his last moments. He prefers to die at home, with someone to love and hug him.

He asks for his ashes to be scattered in the wind in an open field.

As such, I will bring him home tomorrow..
And let him spend his last moments in the warmth of a home. Poor boy.
If only I met him earlier.
