The passing away of a well loved community cat called Gym-Girl

J, who works in the fitness centre, said that she fed Gym-Girl last Thursday and she appeared well. Gym-Girl preferred only dry food.
Last Monday (31th May 2010), the Cleaner-Uncle who also provided Gym-Girl with food and water, found her lifeless at the bicycle-parking area, one of her favourite snoozing spots. He said that she didn't want to eat for two days prior to her death. As there are other feeders, it was hard to determine if she was full or she was unwell.

Cleaner-Uncle has not come to terms with the cat's sudden demise and still placed a bowl of water for her.















































When the weather was cold, Gym-Girl would seek shelter and warmth besides this drink dispenser.

Gym-Girl is estimated to be more than 5 years of age, perhaps about 8 years' old.

She was well loved by many people.

The discovery of her body allowed closure for the people who would miss her. Some community cats just disappeared and caregivers would continue looking out for their appearance and wondering of their well-being and ill-being.

Cats from SAME location, DIFFERENT "destinies"

Three cats, abandoned into homelessness, shared a single location but different "destinies".
The two boys are now adopted into good homes.
The girl is still sleeping under cars and depending on the kindness of caregivers to give her food and water.

Are "destinies" fixed fates or subjected to changes?

Can cats change their "destinies"?

As human beings, we certainly can?

We can speak out against KILLING as the default modus operandi! It doesn't work and a waste of public fund.

We can advocate for STERILISATION to reduce the number of cats as less cats will decrease the intolerance.

We can start sterilise the cats at our downstairs.

We can volunteer ourselves with our town councils to help the property officers to look into complaints about cats. Without alternative, the properyt officers will just activate their pest controllers.

We CAN change the destinies of the cats, for those that remain homeless.

A senior community cat

This community cat was neutered at least 7 years ago. Even though homeless, she is receiving care from human beings and hence she remains in relatively good health.

This cat and many other healthy community cats refute the rationale of a serial cat culler called Tony Tan Tuan Khoon, who sent more than 300 cats to the AVA for its assistance to kill the cats because he felt that "that putting an animal down is ‘humane’ just because community cats MAY have a shorter life. Also if cats on the street have a tough life, then shouldn’t we be kinder to them instead of killing them?"

Different "destinies" but both cared by human

There was once a tabby like Gym-Girl. He was called Gym-Mee. Gym-Mee now lives in a human home. Gym-Girl continues being homeless but recieves food/water and affection from many people. She is hearing impaired and her survival will have to depend on her remaining senses especially vibration perception as she loves to sleep under cars.
