Visiting Ah-Boy (now named Scotty) who was "imprisoned" in a playpen for about 4 years!
June 2009: He came into this 3-room HDB flat household when he was a puppy about 4 years ago. He was named Ah-BoyHis “master” got married and a year later, a baby girl was born.
The care of the dog was left to the wife as he was busy working to support a wife, a child and two elderly parents.
The child developed running nose problems and the GP attributed it to the presence of the dog.
The dog has since been confined in a small area in kitchen.
4th July 2009: the owners released him for $1,000.
6th July 2009: adopted by Khema
25-12-2009: Home with the family from a stroll at MacRitchie Park

Update on Ah-Boy, now called Scotty
04-10-2009, "Getting very naughty and bossy. Occupies her chair every night to make himself carried. Ran out of the house and bit a big dog, until the latter ran away in fear. Whole family loves and spoils him anything, especially second son as he bought his licence number and struck first prize!"

Docs, don’t be too hasty in blaming pets for allergies

MY SAY
A FAMILY which purchased a Maltese puppy (pictured right) had a baby a year later.
The baby developed a runny nose and her mother took her to see a neighbourhood GP.
The GP put the blame for the child’s condition on the dog.
The dog was then confined in a small pen in the kitchen.
Its water was stored in a siphon water bottle meant for smaller animals such as rabbits.
Eventually, it was neglected.
It was not walked, not given baths, was left ungroomed and its claws grew uncomfortably long. Even its food was not replenished, and it was fed plain bread.
Its cage was lined with urine-soaked and faeces-stained newspapers.
This went on for four years.
I appeal to doctors to be more cautious when giving diagnoses.
Children or adults with suspected pet allergies should be referred to an allergist for tests.
Patients could also be referred to information online on how to deal with such allergies.
Even if a person is allergic to a family pet, there are ways to co-exist under the same roof.
As a last resort, find the pet a good home.

He was seen by Dr Kenneth Tong of AAVC on 04-07-2009 and was found to be healthy and heartworm negative.
He is now called Scotty
