PETITION: Singapore needs animal welfare police separate from AVA

Many pets have been abused in the privacy of homes in Singapore but authorities cannot act until there is an eyewitness report or solid proof that such abuse is occurring.

Animal Welfare groups also do not have any power to remove a suffering animal in question when members of the public come to them for help.

As reported by SPCA, reported animal cruelty is on the rise in Singapore and if left status quo, more and more abuses will occur in homes where it is hard to collect evidence unless there is an authority who can enter, investigate with the power to temporarily remove the suffering animal in question and power to refer the case for prosecution by Singapore courts of law.

For that, we need a Singapore Animal Welfare Police Division like most developed countries. We may also need to have registered animal welfare groups empowered with the power of temporary removal of victimised animals during investigation to stop the alleged abuse from continuing as well in partnership.

This is a petition to get AVA to ban the use of inhumane traps to catch animals.
There have been reports of animals caught by glue-traps laid by pest control companies: SPCA Singapore reported on its Facebook page on 20 February about a community cat that suffered and died from being caught in a glue-trap laid in a HDB bin centre. On Stomp, a member of the public posted about a pigeon struggling to free itself after it got stuck on a glue-trap outside a shop that sells birds.
Glue-traps cause extreme suffering to animals. In attempting to free itself from the board, an animal may pull its fur off, exposing raw skin. It may take 3-5 days for trapped animals to die; some succumb to exhaustion, collapse face down in the glue and suffocate when the glue lodges in their nasal passages - this process can last as long as 24 hours. Often, the animals die from a combination of exhaustion, dehydration and starvation. Glue-traps capture animals indiscriminately - the neighbourhood cats, stray dogs, rodents and even lost pets can all fall victim to them.

Help Save Our Strays at Lorong Halus

Dear Mr. Teo,We are writing this petition to you in the hope that you will consider delaying the construction of the park located at Tampines Lorong Halus which is connected to the Punggol PCN. You are probably aware that there are stray dogs living in that area and with the future construction of the park, AVA will step in to remove these strays from the area and cull them. As much as we would like a better quality of life, we sincerely wish that you will consider giving us some time to find alternative place to relocate the strays instead of having the AVA catch and cull them. We are not asking for a significant amount of time, but rather a reasonable timeframe for us to find an alternative. We do not believe that animals should sacrifice for the sake of humans, especially when SG is always touting itself to be a 1st world country with excellent welfare, security, transportation and government.

Petition: Swift Actions by AVA to Punish the Woman Who Hit The Dog

The Petition

On the 10th July 2010, a video of a woman beating her pet dog on the
head with a wooden broom was uploaded on to Youtube. It have since
created a huge uproar from netizens.

In it, the woman is seen yelling at the dog for chewing on a cushion.
She repeatedly strikes the dog on the head forcefully, causing the dog
to shriek in pain. The dog tries to escape but has nowhere to run as it
is cornered against a wall.

SPCA and AVA have stepped in and are investigating this case. However, SPCA revealed that they have no power to prosecute the culprit. We hereby would like to appeal to AVA to update us on the investigation and take firm actions against the woman and bring Butters out of the house.
