Teen's cat-rehab effort turned 'pests' into 'pets'

Thanks to the help of the Cat Welfare Society and two retired teachers, I was able to start a sterilisation programme in my estate in the east at the age of 14.
With no support or encouragement from my relatives or friends, I followed my burning desire to spread the message of sterilisation. I approached all the cat feeders I met on the street and built up my network.
In 2000, I started out with 28 blocks, zero sterilised cats and a neighbourhood flooded with cats. It started out tough, with weekly trapping of two to three cats. Slowly and steadily, we covered the initial area and expanded to other parts of the neighbourhood.
This year, in 52 blocks (about two-thirds of the neighbourhood), the cat population is decreasing. The expanded network of responsible cat caregivers is required to sterilise newcomers only once every one to two months.
The mortality rate for well-cared community cats is rather high. Those blocks with a high density of cats in the past are left with one or two survivors. Some blocks have even achieved cat-free status.
If I had chosen to be a idol-chasing teenager seven years ago, the residents here would still be putting up with scrawny sickly ‘pests’. However, today, many are living with beautiful, healthy ‘pets’ which are part of the community.

He has been adopted by a very wonderful couple, who are in regular contact with us.
They love him a lot and he has 2 other felines plus a chinchilla for companionship.
Here's a pic of him with my mum... he is truly a sad story with a happy ending :)
May 2009 bring peace, blessings and good health to you and your family, as well as to all our animal friends!

From the desk of Mama Piggy:
... she haz it!
Mama proved that she is no pushover.
Although she is somewhat apprehensive of Kootoo (I think she knows the pecking order), she can stand up to him if he gets too pesky.
Mama has also gone after Muffy when she's in a frisky mood.
As for her sonny Milo, she switches between wanting to play with him and wanting to "toughen" him up like a gangsta =_=
But blood is thicker than water. Milo is always hanging around near Mama and even going up to sniff her. But I don't know why Mama seems to be rather spooked whenever Milo gets too close. Give them some time, I suppose.
In the meantime, Mama's sniffles is not going away :( Her nose is still runny, but I don't really want to put her on anti-biotics again. She had finished two courses. We will monitor and bring to the vet if need be.

Description
Do you have a furry friends.. furry kids or an encounter with any furry wonders..? This year LPN's Annual children's art show would like to share with you the little wonders from our Kids whom had spent a session of Art Camp theme "Furry Wonders Art Camp". Through the full or half day camp, our teachers guided them to explored about the wonder in the animal's world.
Followed by, they had created a series of artworks ranging from 2D Acrylic Painting on canvas to oil pastel drawing and even collage making on corrugated board.
The age group of the participants range from 3 - 16 yrs old. Now, all these works will be up on display at our new main outlet at Suntec City Mall, Tower Two, #03-013C, near to Toy R Us. The artwork will be on showcase from 27 Dec 08 till Mar 09.
