Poisoning of pigeons by the town councils

Join Facebook's Appeal to the town councils to STOP POISONING PIGEONS

"In the current H1NI paranoia, complaints about the animals and birds in our midst have escalated, exerting tremendous pressure on the property officers to take action. Some RC (Residents' Committee) members even abuse their positions to put even greater pressure on the town councils.
The property officers will then activate the pest controllers (usually the contracted estate cleaning company) to lay baits of bread crumbs with poisons inserted.
The real culprits responsible for flocks of pigeons are residents who throw food out of the windows of their high-rise flats.
These are the ones who ought to have their irresponsible act "culled".
Killing pigeons is ineffective and poisoned bread crumbs are a danger to pet dogs and perhaps even some curious kids!
The town council only gets to hear complainants. Let's them also hear voices from residents like ourselves who object to this cruel and ineffective solution to complaints of pigeons in HBD estates! Write to your town council to register your objection!"

THE CASE FOR THE HUMANE CONTROL OF PIGEONS

"Pigeons are one of the few species of wild animal with which town and city dwellers have regular contact, so they are popular with a lot of people. However, the cost of cleaning their droppings from buildings and statues can be considerable and pigeon welfare can be adversely affected by overcrowding.

There are many places world-wide where attempts have been made to control pigeons by culling. Culling methods have included poisoning, shooting with air rifles and trapping. However, modern scientific research (1) shows that culling is completely ineffective, as bird numbers can increase above pre-cull levels within weeks of the cull being carried out."
