The Electric New Paper :
Busker who cares for strays
We want to help his animals
04 September 2009
I REFER to the story 'Readers offer help, donations and advice' (The New Paper, 28 Aug).
Based on the article, it would appear that Mr Don Martin cares for 67 stray animals at Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru (JB).
Our animal welfare society, Noah's Ark CARES, believes that sterilisation is the only solution to indiscriminate breeding. It saddens us to hear that the animals Mr Martin has are not sterilised.
It is therefore very likely that the number of animals under his care will multiple and there will be even more mouths for him to feed.
In order to prevent such a situation from occurring, we at Noah's Ark CARES would like to help him sterilise his animals.
We are an animal welfare society registered in Singapore, but with an animal sanctuary in Pekan Nanas, JB.
We also noticed from the photographs that quite a number of them have skin problems. We would like to see if we can also offer to help treat the animals.
We do recognise that sterilisation is not free and would like to highlight that it will cost RM100 ($40) to sterilise a female dog and RM60 for a male dog.
Cats are slightly less expensive at RM30 for a male cat and RM80 for a female cat.
Despite the cost, we believe that it's a worthy investment to make as it will reduce the animal population in the most humane way.
We would welcome any gifts from those who would also like to contribute towards the sterilisation and medical needs.
We do sincerely hope that we will be able to make a difference to the lives of the stray animals under Mr Martin's care.
